What it's really like to work onboard a cruise ship
“I've had the incredible opportunity to work two contracts as a waitress on a cruise ship. It's an amazing experience, as I don't have to worry about rent, food, or commuting costs since these are all part of the job. This setup allows me to save a lot, especially with the added bonus of tips. One of the highlights of my job is the chance to explore different countries. I love treating myself to delicious meals in charming restaurants ashore and enjoying some downtime with friends in the crew bar. It's such a joy to step off the ship and experience new places. The work is undoubtedly demanding, with long hours and no days off, but it's also incredibly rewarding. After months onboard, the anticipation of waking up without an alarm is a welcome change. For those considering a long-term career in this field, it's important to plan for the two months of unpaid leave between contracts. Personally, I managed to save about $6,500 by the end of my last contract, which gives me a nice cushion during my time off. Overall, this journey has been an enriching experience, filled with adventure, hard work, and personal growth.”

“I've had the wonderful opportunity to work on cruise ships for the past seven years, each time embarking on an enriching eight-month contract. I've been able to manage my expenses wisely. Even with occasional purchases and internet costs, I can save a lot every month, contributing to my long-term financial goals. Yes, I could have been better with my money, and invested when I started. However, I am now seeing great results, and my earnings growing through Crew Investment Group’s investment options. Over these seven years, working on cruise ships has been a rewarding journey, allowing me to build a solid financial foundation while experiencing the unique lifestyle and adventures that come with”

Chris, an American with a background in the hotel industry, “I embarked on an exciting journey by joining a major cruise line in the Guest Services department. My role offered me a unique opportunity to interact with guests from around the world and enhance my hospitality skills. Adapting to the life on a cruise ship was an adventure for me. Sharing a cabin with a colleague and working long hours without days off presented challenges, but honestly it also built a sort of resilience and I developed amazing friendships from all over the world. The experience taught me valuable lessons in teamwork and adaptability, as I navigated the demands of a dynamic work environment. Despite the demanding schedule, I found fulfillment in the connections made and the diverse cultures onboard. My time onboard has helped my professional journey and given me unforgettable memories. While the work was not without challenges, it was an opportunity for personal growth and a deeper appreciation for the hospitality industry that I really value.”
